Did You Know: Rick Moranis Stopped Acting To Care For His Two Children After He Lost His Wife

If you grew up watching 1980s and 90s movies — you know exactly who Rick Moranis is and more than likely have fond memories of watching him in his movies. Movies like ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs and Little Shop Of Horrors. All classics!

In the mid 1990s we stopped seeing Moranis in movies and just ‘disappeared’ from the movie scene completely….and he really never returned.

Moranis was quite the man. At the height of his career, he had fame, money and respect in Hollywood — and he gave it all up to tend to his family as a human should!

Moranis lost his wife in 1991 to breast cancer, leaving Rick and his two children alone. In 1997, Moranis stopped acting for good.

In an interview from the early 2000s, he explained, “I’m a single parent and I just found that it was too difficult to manage to raise my kids and to do the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn’t miss it.”

Throughout the years, Moranis did do a few voice overs for animated movies like Disney’s ‘Brother Bear’. He released a few comedy albums too — but mainly he stayed completely out of the spotlight.
