Ticks are exploding across the United States and every summer they seem to get worse and worse.

The parasites can hold a slew of diseases, one of the most prominent being Lyme Disease.

So, how can we keep ourselves safe from these pests? There are the high priced tick repellents at various stores but these options tend to be rather costly and full of gross chemicals. An alternative choice would be to simply make your own!

The following DIY recipe is safe for humans and pets! Because pets get ticks too! More so than humans!

To start, grab a spray bottle and add two cups of distilled white vinegar and one cup of water. Next, add two spoonfuls of almond or vegetable oil. If you want, you can add peppermint oil, citrus oil, or lemon juice for a nice smell (and they help keep ticks away, too!).

Finally, give the bottle a good shake and spray yourself and your pets. Just make sure to avoid the eyes! If you are going to spend the entire day outside and in the woods, it’s best to continue to reapply the solution multiple times throughout the day.

If you don’t want to smell like vinegar, you will want to add at least 20-drops of your favorite bath oil or essential oil. Eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and citrus oil are great choices.
