It’s a little known fact that baby owls often sleep face down…some believe this to be because their heads are simply too heavy.

Journalist Mark Rees mentioned that ‘fact’ along with a simple photo he took of a sleeping baby owl and posted to Twitter. The photo received well over 119k likes!

I personally had no clue that baby owls slept this way! You learn something new everyday I guess!

Here are 15 adorable pictures of baby owls sleeping with their ‘heavy’ heads – face down!

We were unable to find any scientific backing to Rees’ claim, but we definitely found out that baby owls do sleep face down — often.

When owls sleep, they sleep for a very short period of time and they most certainly do not like to be woken up — even to be fed.

When owls sleep on branches and such, they dig their talons into the object, this way they don’t fall while asleep.
