In 2003, A zoo where Shirley the Elephant had been staying for decades, agreed to send Shirley to an Elephant Sanctuary. The sanctuary provides elephants with hundreds of acres to wander around, as well as the option of a warm barn to sleep in.
A man named Solomon worked for the Zoo and took care of Shirley for 22 years. Sadly, the Shirley was forced to wear a chain around her leg for all those years, but finally the chain was coming off.
When Shirley arrives at the Sanctuary she sees another elephant for the first time in over two decades, their introduction to one another is wonderful to watch. Shirley had met this elephant before, 25 years prior when the two were forced to work for a circus company. They say elephants never forget and when you watch these two elephants together, it becomes clear that they most certainly never forget.
One Shirley is stable at her new home, Solomon baths her one last time and has to say goodbye. The connection between the two is very real and very emotional.
