A 19-year-old runner in New York stumbled upon some unexpected company Tuesday night while out on her nightly run.
Rachel Smith found herself between a mama bear and her two cubs and the mama bear was not happy about it!
“The mother bear apparently was very aggressive towards her to the point where our victim climbed up a tree to try to keep herself safe,” Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston told WKTV.
Smith didn’t have her cellphone and had to resort to throwing items at the bear in order to keep it away from her. Smith then climbed a tree and stayed in the tree for the majority of the night — until the bear and her cubs left the area.
She was found safe Wednesday morning after a search party went out looking for her.
