Netflix currently has a documentary about the making of We Are The World. This is a must-watch if you grew up in the 1980s!
There is a ton of amazing behind-the-scenes video in addition to interviews from the present with artists including Lauper, Springsteen, and Lionel Richie.
You will definitively see why Quincy Jones is considered one of the all-time great producers. You can see firsthand how they brought together some of the biggest acts on the planet for a single night in one place to create one of the biggest songs every written.
The entire documentary is basically raw footage of the night that the song was worked and recorded. It’s amazing to see Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and over 30 more stars in one room, doing what they do best.
One of the best parts of the entire documentary is the rare footage of Bob Dylan recording his solo for the song. A shy Dylan is unable to even sing his part at first, but with a little help from Stevie Wonder, he nails it!
