Energy drinks are everywhere. You can’t stop into a convenient store or grocery store without seeing a massive display or coolers full energy drinks. These highly caffeinated drinks are not the healthiest of options when looking for something to quench your thirst or give you a quick pick me up. They are loaded with sugar, have super high caffeine amounts and are jam packed with other ridiculous and unhealthy stimulants.

Sadly — they taste pretty good and kids love them. But they are becoming a serious health and mental health issue with youth’s all over the globe.

A study done by Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health at Teesside University and Newcastle University in the U.K has shown that the majority of youth’s who consume energy drinks have higher risks of developing mental health issues. Issues such as ADHD, depression, anxiety and even suicidal thought.

When you consume that much caffeine and stimulants in one sitting, your mind and body react. Your brain become highly stimulated, your heart rate increases and while some may feel they are energizing their bodies or gaining some sort of clarity by experiencing these effects — it’s the exact opposite. Over time, those stimulations can turn into anxiety, stress and even panic attacks.

Brain cells are stimulated and over time those cells with stop becoming stimulated and that can lead to serious depression.

Youth’s around the world have experienced heart issues due to drinking too many energy drinks as well. Heart palpitations and even heart attacks have happened.

So long story short — it’s best to lay off of the energy and when you are looking for a pick me up, try vitamins, water or a simple cup of coffee.
