Because the coronavirus has many flu-like symptoms, coughing tends to be one of the first signs that occurs. Since the coronavirus affects many of the mucous membranes in the body like the eyes, nose and throat, it normally affects the respiratory system, causing a runny nose, sneezing, coughing and the like. While coughing can be difficult to deal with, it also allows the body to expel virus-infected mucous rather than keep it within the body. Patients can even take cough medicine to help them with the removal process.
