Such a scary, massive, beautiful prehistoric looking beast!

Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were out checking traps set for the Suwannee alligator snapping turtle, Macrochelys suwanniensis, when they made a crazy rare discovery, according to a Facebook post from FWC.

Trappers caught a 100-pound male Suwanee alligator snapping turtle!

The New River is a blackwater stream with very low biological activity, so to find that many turtles in one stream is quite rare.
