When it comes to the realness of the streets — UPS wants their drivers to be ready to keep it real, no matter what the situation they may face.
Business Insider’s Hayley Peterson Herrin wanted to learn more about the ins and outs of the UPS company, so she headed to West Boylston, Massachusetts. This is where she attended UPS Intergrad school. The curriculum is very hands-on, giving her the chance to find out everything she wanted to know about the company’s training processes.
The new delivery drivers are given the tools that they need to maintain total awareness on the road. The prospective drivers are also taught how to handle the roads when the conditions are icy, and yes, there is a tutorial on proper usage of the horn.

“UPS delivers more than 5.5 billion packages every year. The company runs 12 specialized driving schools, teaching its 129,000 drivers, how to drive safely, load vans efficiently, and even how to walk on ice,” says Business Insider.
Once the drivers are ready to start testing their skills, they are given access to a fictional town onsite. The courses last anywhere from five to nine days. Business Insider expands on the curriculum’s objectives a bit more, saying, “Allowing our trainees to experience and learn through a hands-on approach. We teach them to drive in a replica outdoor city called Clarkville that has real streets, street signs, sidewalks, and simulated commercial and residential delivery and pickup sites.”
They really go the extra mile to ensure their drivers are trained for real-life scenarios!
