It was a spring training game where Randy Johnson was pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 24, 2001. The game was against the San Francisco Giants in Tucson, Arizona.

During the 7th inning Johnson hurled a fastball towards home plate. Right when the ball left Johnson’s hand, a bird flew in the direct path of the ball and got demolished on live TV.

All you saw as the pitch and then an explosion of feathers. After the incident, Giants second baseman Jeff Kent went on the field and picked up the bird – showed it to Johnson and then he brought it to the dugout. No one knows what happened after that, but there is no way that the bird survived a fastball from Johnson.
