When left out…soda does a little more than just get flat!
A time lapse video by Nerdist shows shows a glass of soda can actually go through quite the transformation if it is left to sit for long enough. And that is exactly what happened when they left one glass of soda alone for 105 days.
The experiment was put on by Temponaut Timelapse, a YouTube channel that often features the decomposition of different food items, soda can actually go through its own decomposing process.
Within the first week, nothing crazy changed with soda. Little things happened, like the ice cubes melting, the lemon garnish on the side of the glass shriveling up, and the liquid starting to evaporate.
Around the eighth day mark is when the really gross stuff starts to happen. That is when there are actual patches of mold that begin to appear on the side of the glass. The patches of the blue-green mold get bigger and bigger as the days progress – particularly the one forming right in the center of the soda. And by the time the three-month marker comes around, the glass of soda is actually festering with moldy soda.
