After a short engagement, a couple who eloped in the 1970s didn’t have a long marriage to show for their wedding. However, the woman never took off her wedding ring and that proved to be a very smart decision.

The 5-carat diamond wedding ring is one of the largest to ever appear on the TV show ‘Antiques Road Show’. The ring features an emerald cut diamond as the centerpiece of the ring, recalling the Art Deco period. The large diamond also has nearly no inclusions- which makes it a pretty rare stone and a spectacular piece of heirloom jewelry.

The ring, now in the possession of the bride’s daughter, brought the ring to the Antiques Road Show to see how much it’s worth. The last time the woman had the ring appraised was in the 1970’s, where it was worth a little over $20,000.

According to the paperwork, the ring came from noted jewelry firm, Van Cleef and Arpel’s. Jewelry pieces by this firm have been worn by such huge stars as Liz Taylor and Marlene Dietrich and more recent celebs like Jennifer Aniston and Mariah Carey.

The ring had been resized over the years and therefore had lost the makers mark signature engraved on the band. But that didn’t stop the ring from being valued extremely high!

The ring is estimated to be worth six figures!

Good call on the bride for not returning the ring!!
