Having good looks and a goddess-like body has its disadvantages. Spiranac’s appearance on the cover of Golf digest sparked controversy. In its nearly 7 decades of publication, the magazine only featured a woman on the cover 23 times, with only 11 being professional golfers. Critics were questioning what she has done for golf that warranted such attention. She was also accused of “sexualizing women’s golf.” She admitted it hurt her, seems like she was being bullied all over again. And, the LPGA introduced a stricter dress code in 2017, restricting plunging necklines, leggings, and short skirts. This triggered criticism that the LPGA was “slut-shaming” its own players. Spiranac spoke against it in Fortune Magazine.
