Much like vomiting, one of the first signs that patients notice with a gallbladder attack is having heartburn. Of course many don’t realize that it’s actually a gallbladder attack that’s causing the problem and think that it’s due to GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. GERD occurs ‘where the esophageal sphincter does not close completely, allowing bile to enter the lower esophageal tract,’ which ends up inflaming the tissue and causing heartburn. While the both GERD and gallbladder attacks can end up in heartburn, knowing the reason behind the heartburn is key.
