If you are planning a UK trip this year, then you might be wondering what’s the best way to travel the island. From trains to motorhomes, we have thought of it all. Carry on reading to see the top ways to travel the UK on a budget below.

Trains

If you are on a budget, then travelling by train is an easy and cost-effective way to get from one destination to another. When planning to travel by train, we recommend booking in advance; not only will this make you prepared for your travels but will also secure you cheaper tickets. If you are planning on using the UK trains a lot and are within the age group of 16-30, then we would recommend purchasing a Railcard which gives you ⅓ off for all train tickets.

Coaches

Travelling by coach is a great way to move around the UK when on a budget. Not as quick as a train but usually works out as a cheaper alternative. You could use the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing whilst your coach travels through the cities and country roads.

Buses

Local buses are a great way to help you make your way around a city or town. They are usually quite cheap, especially when you purchase a day pass. When in major cities like London or Manchester, it’s best to ditch the car and use the local buses, as most roads now have bus only lanes which means not getting stuck in the busy city traffic.

Motorhome

Renting or buying a motorhome is an excellent way to travel the UK. You have the freedom to travel anywhere you want wherever you want with your close friends or family by your side. Another advantage is that you will save a lot of money as you won’t need to book hotel rooms, which can be costly in the UK. With a motorhome, you have many more opportunities to travel across borders and even overseas at ease.

Walking

When in cities like London or Glasgow, you might think using the underground is the best way to travel; however sometimes it’s quicker to walk. Check your journey times before leaving and see the time difference between walking and taking the underground. Sometimes, you will find that it’s the same amount of time or even quicker to walk. Not only will this save you some money, but it will allow you to see the city and come across attractions you might have missed by taking the underground.

Flying

You might think that the UK is too small to cater to domestic flights; however, if you are travelling a long distance without wanting to stop in between, you can grab a domestic flight. Hop from England to Scotland to Northern Ireland, all by plane. Travelling by plane won’t be your cheapest option but will be your quickest depending on where you are flying to and from.

So in conclusion, if you are wanting to save some money then make sure you sit down and take the time to plan your journey. If you plan it right, you will end up having the adventure of your life.
