Business Insider

Even before the pandemic began, JCPenney already had a decline in sales, sizeable debt and lesser foot traffic in their stores. The pandemic then forced the retailer to temporarily close their locations, triggering the eventual bankruptcy filing in May of this year. The department store chain has plans of eventually closing around 30% of its 846 branches. The retailer announced last June that they are closing a total of 155 stores. Prior to this announcemen, they already shut down six stores in New York, North Carolina, Montana, South Carolina, Ohio and Oklahoma.
