The high-speed jet technology built into the aircraft enables Presidents to travel long distances more quickly for face-to-face encounters with other leaders of the free world. Conversely, the Boeing 747 is capable of speeds exceeding 650 miles per hour. It is believed to have flown faster than 700 miles per hour in the past. As a matter of fact, the 747 can soar halfway around the globe thanks to its massive fuel capacity of 53,000 gallons. As you can speculate, this makes it pretty heavy. A fully loaded Air Force One would weigh over 800,000 pounds. Likewise, a Boeing 747 can cruise at really high altitudes. We are talking 45,000 feet and beyond! That is more than 10,000 feet higher than most commercial aircraft.
