5. Red Spots on the Roof of the Mouth

Patients with Strep throat often notice red, purplish spots that resemble rashes on their soft palates. These are called petechiae, and result when the small and delicate blood vessels that line the mouth rupture and bleed as a consequence of the increased flow of blood to the infected area. This increase in blood flow is part of the body’s immune response to the infection.
