Another symptom experienced by patients with strep throat is headache. Headaches can be caused by a number of factors but is usually a result of the body’s inflammatory response to an invading pathogen.
Toxins released by Streptococcus bacteria trigger the release of cytokines, infection-fighting chemicals that help the body get rid of sickness. These cytokines have been known to cause some amount of swelling, explaining the headache felt during and infection.
