Another symptom of Strep throat is tonsillitis, or the inflammation of the tonsils, which are a pair of tissue masses found towards the back of the soft palate on either side of the throat. These structures function as filters, helping the body’s immune system weed-out harmful substances and toxins that make their way into the blood. Because they become swollen during strep infections, swallowing becomes painful, making it difficult for patients to speak or eat.
