Los Teques Prison (Venezuela)

One of the worst prisons and probably has one of the highest death rates, it is said that every inmate in this Caracas, Venezuela jail carried either some form of a knife or gun. Inmates can roam around but should be careful and wary in strolling outside of their wing as they can be robbed at gunpoint anytime, and that is if they’re lucky. Gun battles between rival gangs armed with machine guns can erupt at any point, with some inmates reported to be beheaded then chopped up with chainsaws. Overcrowding, which is a usual problem not just in South American jails, force inmates to sleep in shifts, often on the filthy concrete floor. And don’t think that the space is free, as bosses in the pavilion charge a weekly rent for it. Rape may not happen in all of the pavilions of the jail, but when it does, it’s usually a “family affair.” Although there is food, you still need money to eat decently, and to buy medicine when the need arises. Otherwise, there’s a real possibility that you might die.
