Saddam Hussein in his first court appearance in 2004 held at a courtroom in Camp Victory, a former palace of Saddam on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq. The former Iraqi president, who ruled for over 20 years since 1979, was captured from hiding in a “spider hole” just outside his hometown of Tikrit in December 2003. He then faced the War Crimes Tribunal for war crimes committed during his rule, including torture and murder, which he pleaded innocent to.
