Forgiveness is a hard concept for a lot of people, especially when feelings and emotions are running wild. Forgiving someone for a wrong in your life and righting that wrong can do wonders for your own good. With forgiveness, no matter how hard it may be, comes a form of freedom that will liberate you from within and allow you to live a happier life.

1. It will help you practice compassion.

Being able to accomplish forgiveness means being able to empathize with people. This is a skill that will help you in more that one area of your life.

It will open up new opportunities.

It’s true when they say that holding grudges only hurts you. If you harbor those negative feelings, you’ll inherently turn away from situations that you would gladly welcome otherwise.

You will learn from others’ mistakes.

When you forgive, it’s not only the person on the other side who learns a lesson, but you who can absorb what went wrong in the situation.

It will make you stronger.

It takes a strong person to say sorry, and an even stronger person to forgive or ask for forgiveness.

You will keep from burning bridges.

When you hold onto pride, you push away those around you. By embracing humility, you will enrich relationships instead of break them down.

You will practice love.

If forgiveness is the final form of love, that means you will be missing out on so much love that’s at your fingertips.

You will become deeper friends with others.

If you refuse to forgive people, how can you expect others to forgive you? One of the things you never want to be is a hypocrite.  Forgiveness always deepens friendships because it shows vulnerability and builds trust.

You will stop wasting time.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right, forgive the ones who don’t…and believe that everything happens for a reason.

You will find out about yourself.

Forgiving is like getting a huge weight off your chest. You may not even realize how heavy those feelings are, but once you let them go you’ll feel refreshed and anew… and learn something about yourself in the process.
