In 1976 A chemistry teacher by the name of Roger Bennatti, took a freshly unwrapped Twinkie and as an experiment to further his students science education, placed it on top of a chalkboard in his classroom. Bennatti wanted to see how long it would take to decompose.
Well, that Twinkie is still intact 40-years later!
The Twinkie now sits in a glass case in the office of the Dean at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Maine.
The Twinkie has zero mold and it has even retained its original shape. If anything was learned by this multiple decade long experiment…it’s that preservatives do work…and work well.
Over the years, students have often asked to take a bite of the Twinkie…but many have said if given the chance to indulge in the old treat…they would pass. I mean, come on…this thing is 40-years-old!
