The small city of Danville is the county seat of Vermilion County and was once the home of Dick Van Dyke, Gene Hackman, and most notably, Abraham Lincoln who spent 18 years practicing law in the humble city. There are many historical attractions associated with the American statesman, including Lincoln Park, Looking for Lincoln Wayside Exhibits, and the historic Fithian Home where the former president of the United States gave an impromptu speech in 1858.
Coal mining used to be the primary industry in Danville, but today, the major employment sectors are government, manufacturing, and retail. You can look for job opportunities with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the grocery distributors, McLane Company or Blue Cross Blue Shield. Though the median household income is lower than the national average and the unemployment rate is rather high, these are offset by the low cost of living and affordable housing, mortgage, and rent.
