3. Cough With Yellow, Green, or Bloody Mucous

Because of the buildup of pus with the lungs, people that have pneumonia often end up with a severe cough that causes them to spit out yellow, or green, or even bloody mucous. Since pneumonia is caused by a buildup of fluid or pus, the cough is an outcome from the infection, causing the infected to try to clear their lungs of said pus. Although pus can have different colors that have different meanings, when yellow and green pus is accompanied by a cough, fever, shortness of breath, and many times chills, it is usually a sign that you are suffering from pneumonia.
