Hand washing has been proven to be the best way to stop the spread of disease. Streptococcus bacteria survive outside the human body inside small fluid droplets that come from an infected person’s mouth. These droplets can make their way onto surfaces when a sick person coughs or sneezes. Coming into contact with these surfaces, or shaking the hand of someone who coughed onto his hands, can potentially get one infected. Properly washing your hands before touching food, plates, glasses, eating utensils, etc. can lower the risk of catching or spreading Strep Throat.
Follow these easy steps each time you wash your hands.
1. Wet your hands with clean running water then apply soap.
2. Rub your hands together until the soap foams up. Lather all-over including the back of your hands, your palms, under your nails and between your fingers.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds to make sure that you don’t miss any spots.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean running water.
5. Dry your hands with a clean hand cloth, a paper towel, or an air dryer.
