Before Meryl Streep married her award-winning sculptor husband, Don Gummer, she was actually grieving the death of her first husband, actor John Cazale. Gummer was the friend of Streep’s brother, and they met when she was being evicted from her former apartment that she shared with Cazale. Gummer offered for her to stay in his Soho loft while he was away until she could get back on her feet. The two stayed in contact and eventually, they fell in love. They’ve been together for 43 years and have four children. Streep credits her wonderful life to Don, saying during one of her award acceptance speeches, “And I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me.”
