When nature decides to conjure a storm too powerful for any human to control, people are left at her mercy with only the prayer of hope that they will survive whatever she has in store for them. This particular photograph was taken in 1989 by Jean Guichard, showing massive waves as they hit the Phares dans la Tempete, a lighthouse in France located near the town of Brittany. The lighthouse keeper, Theodore Malgome, looks quite calm while facing what looks like a monster squall, but he was, in fact, waiting to be rescued. Thankfully, both he and the lighthouse survived unscathed and amazingly, intact.
