Riding The Ice

Speaking of ice, Sir Ernest Shackleton decided to take a trip over the Antarctic waters in his attempt to be the first person to reach the South Pole. On a boat he named Endurance, he set off on an expedition that he thought would put his name in the books. Unfortunately, the ice was too much for the ship to handle and was slowly crushed to death back in 1915. Amazingly, Shackleton and crew made it out alive, camping on the ice for a jaw-dropping 497 days until they made it to land via life rafts. He was right about one thing though, he became famous indeed, just not for what he had wanted originally.
