Jessica went grocery shopping in her hometown of Guthrie, Oklahoma. That’s when the mother of four and leader of the Christian outreach team at the First Christian Church noticed her wallet was gone.
Jessica had just seen a man standing closely behind her in the store, and knew it was him who had stolen the wallet, which held $27 in cash.
Instead of rushing to call the cops, Jessica remained calm. And instead of frantically running to tell an employee, Jessica approached the thief and found herself face-to-face with the man who stole her money.
“I’m gonna give you a choice,” she told him. “You can either give me my wallet and I’ll forgive you right now, and I’ll even take you to the front and pay for your groceries.” The other option was calling the police.
What happened next went viral, leaving readers all over the country completely stunned by Jessica’s actions that fateful day.

After the choice was given, the man reached into his sweatshirt pocket and returned the wallet to Jessica. The two walked up to the front of the store and Jessica purchased his groceries, which consisted of bread, milk, crackers and cheese.
He apologized over and over again, telling Jessica how desperate he was.
The last thing he said was, ‘I’ll never forget tonight. I’m broke, I have kids, I’m embarrassed and I’m sorry.
Jessica, who is the leader of the Christian outreach team at the First Christian Church, identified with the man as a fellow parent.
“I never carry cash,” she told the Christian Post. “When I got to the check-out counter that day his total was just a little over $27 and I had $28 in cash in my wallet.
It was at that point, Jessica knew a higher power was controlling the situation.
