Feats of strength and endurance have amazed us since time immemorial. From the likes of the circus strong-man to the incredibly fit and buffed super athletes. Some feats are utterly unbelievable and make for remarkable stories. Such is the record-breaking feat of planking by fitness blogger Dana Glowacka.
Planking is defined as an isometric core strength exercise maintaining a position similar to a push up for the maximum possible time. An average healthy person can hold a plank for about 5 minutes at a stretch. Then the muscles start to burn, and your mind tells you it’s time to give it a rest. But for Dana, her mind told her enough is enough after 4 hours and 20 minutes! She smashed the Womens International Planking Record by almost an hour. The previous record holder was Maria Kalimera of Cyprus whose record was 3 hours and 31 minutes.
This Montreal resident wowed the audience at the First International Plank Training Conference with her strength and endurance – real abs of steel! Prior to setting the new planking record, Dana placed 2nd at the 2016 International World Cup Plank Challenge in Beijing. She performed a plank of 2 hours and 5 minutes. It’s clear how much she has improved since then.
In a touching show of sibling support, Dana’s brother came to be with her after a 24-hour trip. He stood by as she broke the record. Well, that was nice of him, but standing is really not as arduous as planking.
