The Internet can be a pretty mean place, just ask Kyra Pringle. The South Carolina mother is heartbroken and outraged over the fact that her 2-year-old daughter, Mariah Anderson, has become the target of hurtful memes and jokes across the web. The photo (above) was snapped on Mariah’s 2nd birthday. Her mother then shared it on #Facebook. From there, the image wound up in the hands of Internet trolls who referred to her as a leprechaun among other nasty things.
“She’s not a monster,” Pringle said during an emotional interview with Charlotte’s News 2. “She’s not fake. She’s real. She is here.”
To make matters worse, the toddler suffers from a condition that has drastically shortened her life expectancy. Little Mariah was born with chromosome 2p duplication syndrome. The rare condition impairs both her learning and motor skills.
“She’s fought for her life since she’s got here,” Pringle explained. “I never thought in a million years that I would be sitting here trying to give Mariah’s story like this because of the negative.”
The child’s father, David Anderson, just wants this all to blow over so that his family can move forward.
“People are going to do what they are going to do,” said Anderson, “the only thing that’s bothering me is what’s bothering my family.”
Despite the cyber bullying, Pringle says that her family is simply enjoying the time that they have with Mariah.
“She’s just a joy, it’s a joy to have her right now,” said Pringle, “It’s just to the point where we’re enjoying her.”
