Excessive sleepiness has also been found to be common among people with bipolar disorder. During depressive states, bipolar patients tend to become extremely lethargic. This prevents them from being able to perform their regular tasks, preferring to keep to themselves, hide and just hibernate where nobody can see them.
People who suffer from excessive sleeping or hypersomnia, have difficulty either staying awake during the day, or have extended nighttime sleep, commonly observed in bipolar patients during “lows.”
