16. Decreased Need for Sleep

In stark contrast to a patient’s oversleeping episodes during “lows,” manic patients, tend to skip sleep, thanks to the abnormally high levels of energy they feel. Patients begin to feel restless, preventing them from getting the proper rest they need. Patients admit to being more productive during manic states, and many of them tend to push their limits, forcing themselves to do more with little to no sleep, totally unmindful of the sleep deprivation’s detrimental effect to their health.
