While credit cards are normally accepted all over the world, it’s always safe to bring actual money with you and just keep it in a hotel deposit box for safe keeping. Even travelers checks are not accepted in quite a few places, plus when they are, there are fees to be paid for using them so be sure to have cash on you when heading to Costa Rica.
