While there are a number of reasons why people choose to raise their voices, the Portuguese don’t appreciate it when you do. Be sure not to raise your voice, especially in public, as this can be misconstrued that something horrible is happening, and for the main reason that they find it rude. Unless you have some kind of emergency, keep your voice at a reasonable octave as to not rub anyone in the wrong way.
