Respect is expected of everyone in Portugal, especially when it comes to hitting on women. Don’t be one of those douchebag travelers that goes to another country, gets drunk in a local bar and starts disrespecting all the women by asking them out and being obnoxious. They’re not out to get hit on by strange men, they’re there to have a good time and if they happen to engage you in a conversation, make sure that you’re polite the entire time.
