The Horror of Auschwitz-Birkenau

If you’ve studied your history, then you’ll also know the name of the infamous concentration and death camp during Nazi Germany, Auschwitz-Birkenau. While the stories of the gruesome goingson within the camp are horrific enough, what might even be worse is that when the camp officers chose to flee the camp because they had lost the war, they left tons of dying, starving and sick people in the camp with nowhere to go and no way to survive. When these Jews were finally found by the Soviet army, one solider named Georgii Elisavetskii shared, “They rushed toward us shouting, fell on their knees, kissed the flaps of our overcoats, and threw their arms around our legs.”
