If you’re a kid of the 70s and 80s, then you must be thinking, “Dang! Popeye is a real dude!” Well, you aren’t exactly wrong. The man in the photo was nicknamed Popeye, and he worked for the battleship HMS Rodney for over 20 years, but he wasn’t the actual inspiration for the popular cartoon. Apparently, it was all just a very spooky coincidence that E.C. Segar, who did create Popeye, came up with a cartoon that happened to be this guy’s doppelganger.
