As part of his personal effort to combat violence against the LGBTQ community, Haaz opened up about his sexuality via an emotional video last August 2017. The 41-year old actor in “Nurse Jackie” and “Killing Jesus” announced that he was “a gay, Muslim, Arab-American man.” On the video, he added “Not only am I gay, but I’m also a bottom.” He once revealed the debilitating and crippling fear over growing up gay and Arab. He exclaimed, “you think you will be abandoned by your family and your world will fall apart, and it did.” Haaz added, “It’s how much of a man you are. If you have feminine qualities, the feminine has to be suppressed; to cry is to show weakness. That’s the bigger umbrella that tradition, culture and religion fall under.”
