When ordering wine at a restaurant, the waiters don’t expect that you’re going to be a sommelier. A waitress from Kansas City even said, “If you order a Zinfandel and I ask, ‘Red or white?’ and you look at me with an annoyed face and say, ‘Pink,’ I go tell the other servers and we laugh.” Be sure to at least have an inkling of knowledge of the wine you like, and if you don’t know what that is, then ask for your server’s recommendation if you don’t want them all laughing at your expense.
