Homemade Isn’t Always Homemade

Just like the so-called vegetarian food, when a menu claims that certain dishes are homemade, they aren’t always made in-house. One former waiter explained, “Some places buy salad dressings in one-gallon jars, then add a few ingredients, like a blue cheese crumble or fresh herbs, and call it homemade on the menu.” If you really want to make sure that something is made in the restaurant, look for one that has an open kitchen where you can actually see exactly what they’re cooking.
