It is estimated that stomach flu, or viral gastroenteritis, accounts for 19 to 21 million cases of diarrheal illness in the United States yearly. It is the most frequent cause of acute abdominal disease all over the world, affecting both males and females equally. Of the many viruses that cause the illness, Norovirus is the most infectious, responsible for almost half of all viral gastroenteritis infections.
