Bacterial gastroenteritis, on the other hand, accounts for 1.5 million of all acute gastroenteritis cases in the United States yearly. Most of these cases are due to food contamination, and while it is rarely a cause of death in the US, however, the disease still claims around 300 lives in the US annually.
