Food poisoning, on the other hand, is caused by eating food contaminated with bacteria, earning it the name bacterial gastroenteritis. Organisms such as Campylobacter, Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella and E. coli, make their way into our food through unsanitary food handling processes and preparation techniques. Pathogens also grow on improperly-stored food, making these items potential sources of infection.
