Don’t ever agree with someone when they complement you when you’re in Ireland. Doing so is a mistake as the Irish doesn’t deal well or accept compliments by thanking the person. The expected thing to do is to completely disagree or put yourself down such as saying “it was just luck” when congratulated for doing well, or if someone says you look great, you should say something like “I was in a hurry.” It’s not about the Irish being negative, but humility is really valued in the country.
