Swollen Extremities

Power of Positivity

When your feet, ankles, and legs start to swell, this is a medical condition known as edema. Edema is caused by excess fluid trapped in your body’s tissues, and usually requires medication to remove the excess fluid and reducing the amount of salt in your food. When you have kidney disease, extra fluid and sodium in your blood is usually the cause of the edema, and the swelling can also occur around your eyes. If your kidney is damaged, you may have what is known as nephrotic syndrome, where declining levels of protein in your blood can lead to a buildup of fluids and edema.
