One another tip when it comes to contact lens use is to never sleep with them. Ophthalmologist Benjamin Bert, who happens to work for the Memorial Care Orange Coast Medical Center in California explains, “While there are soft contact lenses that are approved for overnight wear, the risk of infection goes up exponentially when you sleep in the lenses. The physical lens itself can dry out on the surface of the eye and cause microscopic damage that allows bacteria to enter the cornea and cause an ulcer.” While there are contacts that can be used while sleeping, it’s always best to remove them every night if you can.
